Flipping the Paradigm

My first foray into human-centered design was stalling. But, I knew in my heart the problem wasn’t in the mission. I’d seen, and felt, the magic that happens when people are put back in the center of the business universe. I’d witnessed people dare to look beyond what’s known and into the space beyond – into the realm of pure possibility – to uncover new ways to be their own best selves. I’d witnessed the outpouring of emotion when people succeed in this mission and unleash creativity they didn’t even know they had. Sometimes through laughter, other times through tears.

I watched the impact spread beyond the individual, moving like wildfire across teams and beyond. The transformation was undeniable. I was hooked.

So, I decided to strike out on my own to help others see the power in shifting how they work. To help them realize the barriers erected between their work- and personal-selves and how it often leads to pushing invaluable mindsets, like empathy and vulnerability, to the back-burner. To help them discover this magic that happens when you put humans, whether customers or colleagues, back at the center of every decision. Not just because I wanted to, but because I had to. I felt as if I had uncovered a fundamental truth – for change to be successful, it must come from within.

Change Yourself to Change the World

Then I found Revel, and discovered I wasn’t alone. Here was a group of people at the heart of a growing management consultancy united by an incredibly simple, and equally profound, belief – business is about people, not technology or profit. They were striving to change the game as much as I was; from the inside out. Start small and focus internally. Equip every Reveler with the mindset to change the game for themselves and for their clients; so they can change the game for their customers. And watch it fall in to place like dominoes.

This is what I fell in love with. The recognition of like-minded people, with an innate desire and commitment to act, nurture, and change business from the inside out. A group striving to build a foundation so strong and vibrant that anything built on top of it would continue to grow, both in strength and flexibility. A team who lives and breathes What Can Be.

And, we must do it together. After all, without a collective authenticity, we’re just another consulting house. And who wants to revel in that?

Human Centered Consulting

As we begin to expand our reach into the community, our focus must also remain deeply trained on stoking the fire of our own Revelers to ensure a strong and vibrant core. We must continually renew our commitment to putting humans first in every decision we make. It’s not just about knowing, conceptually, that what we’re doing works.

“We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”


That’s what sets us apart. Not that we know the structures and the methods, but we believe in them so deeply that we have become them. We must embody these new ways of engaging with our clients, and with each other. After all, how you do anything is how you do everything.

We are on an incredible journey. And like most journeys, it’s rare to stop in the middle of it to reflect on how far we’ve come. Rather, we focus, eyes forward on how much more there is to accomplish – how far we still have to go. Do we know exactly what that looks like right now? No. Will we figure it out together? You bet we will. Because we already know that we can, and will, Achieve More. Together.
